The Fondation Thalie was created in 2014 in Brussels by the collector and philanthropist Nathalie Guiot. The foundation’s mission is to support, promote and disseminate contemporary creation committed to societal themes. The goals are cultural transmission, exchange and knowledge-sharing. This support is manifested through exhibitions featuring emerging artists, plus residencies and production grants. As an incubator of thought, the foundation is committed to defending and promoting a collective intelligence in the field of arts and culture.
By celebrating 10 years of patronage in 2024, the Fondation Thalie is marking a decade of commitment to artists on the European, international and emerging contemporary scene, focusing on collaborative artistic practices that integrate and preserve craftsmanship, plus ecology as a vector of research and innovation. This initiative has taken the form of exhibitions, artists’ residencies in Brussels and in Arles, an art collection, and off-site programming at the crossroads of visual arts, design and science contributing to new thinking and taking action against climate change.
As the first milestone in its 2024 anniversary programme, the foundation is unveiling the Regenerative Future exhibition in Brussels. This showcase originates and results from four years of its Créateurs Urgence Climat (Creators facing the climate emergency) programme. Within the framework of an exhibition and an events programme, it brings together creators and experts from different disciplines, sharing and putting into perspective and into action this transformative research.
During summer 2024, the Fondation Thalie dedicates an exhibition to the French-Moroccan artist Sara Ouhaddou in its space in Arles. Co-curated by Nathalie Guiot and Ludovic Delalande, the exhibition Take a Sit, Have Some Tea unveils the artist’s photographs, which take as their subject artisans in their environment, while highlighting what inspires her in their universe, the symphony of their gestures. Photography is approached here as a poetic and sculptural lexicon in which intimacy, vernacular traditions and the artist’s universe merge.
