CASE STUDY

Maison Matisse was started in 2019 by the fourth generation of Henri Matisse’s family to celebrate and share the boldness and the values of this universally-acclaimed artist.

On the artist’s 150th birthday, Maison Matisse presented its first collection, featuring a limited-edition series of vases created by three international designers—Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Jaime Hayon and Alessandro Mendini—who in turn collaborated with the best craftsmen. The inaugural exhibition, organized in a parisian hôtel particulier on Faubourg Saint-Honoré, was one of the highlights of FIAC. It brought together collectors, media and influencers from the worlds of design and art. In 2020, Maison Matisse launched its permanent collection, which will be enhanced each year with new pieces inspired by one of the painter’s emblematic tableaux.

l’art en plus designed the strategy of the launch of the Maison Matisse brand; the agency collaborated with Jean-Matthieu Matisse, who initiated the project, and Eliana di Modica, the project’s managing director. The agency orchestrated the communication, the inaugural event and public relations for the presentation – both for the limited-edition series (during FIAC 2019) and the permanent collection launch preview (at Maison & Objet in 2020).

More than 130 media in 15 countries featured and valorized Maison Matisse: major publications with a wide influence (The New York Times, Il Sole 24 Ore, Corriere della Sera, Le Monde, Le Figaro, Les Echos, Vanity Fair, Le Point, L’Echo), as well as discerning niche design and lifestyle media (Wallpaper*, Domus, Interior Design, The World of Interiors, Issue, IDEAT, Milk Décoration, Whitewall, Sight Unseen), plus international editions of AD (USA, Russia, Spain…) and Elle Decor (Italy, Russia…).

In successfully announcing the launch, the international press campaign was virally amplified on social networks and received positive buzz from influencers. l’art en plus has helped position Maison Matisse as a key player in the worlds of design and lifestyle.
