Emerige commissions an artwork by Tobias Rehberger - Pont Cardinet station, Paris

Emerige commissions an exceptional contemporary artwork for the future Pont Cardinet subway station
April 2014

The real estate group Emerige and the suburban rail network RATP have commissioned German artist Tobias Rehberger to produce a permanent artwork for the new subway station Pont Cardinet (Batignolles district, 17th district in Paris).

Pont Cardinet will be the first of the new stations to be built as part of the extension of Line 14 from Saint-Lazare to Mairie de Saint Ouen (Grand Paris project, 2017-2023). The decision to incorporate an original contemporary artwork was made early on in the design of the station and was integral to the overall planning.

The entrance to the subway station will be built into the ground floor of a new building designed by Chinese agency MAD, founded by Ma Yansong, together with French architect Christian Biecher. Tobias Rehberger’s permanent, monumental work will be installed at the foot of this architecturally brilliant and environmentally innovative futuristic building.

Emerige, the group developing the building in this rapidly changing suburb, is the patron of this bold artistic commission. Its support for this major project is a significant initiative and reflects the commitment of both the group and its Chairman, collector Laurent Dumas, to promoting contemporary art and creativity.
