The Louis Roederer Foundation is proud to renew its commitment alongside La Semaine de la Critique by sponsoring the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award. This €5,000 prize will be awarded to an actor or actress from one of the competition’s seven feature films. It aims to highlight the performer’s work in one of their first appearances on the silver screen or in a particularly notable role in their career.
In 2018, Félix Maritaud was awarded the first Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award for his outstanding interpretation of Leo, the main character of the tough and uncompromising film Sauvage directed by Camille Vidal-Naquet. Félix Maritaud was chosen to be honoured on the poster of the 58th edition of La Semaine de la Critique taking place between May 15th and 23rd.
The jury of the 2019 edition of La Semaine de la Critique will be presided by Colombian most talented director, Ciro Guerra, filmaker of 4 feature films, among which 3 presented in Cannes. El abrazo de la serpiente (Embrace of the Serpent) was the first Colombian film ever nominated for the Oscar of Best Foreign Language Film. Ciro Guerra is currently in post-production of his fifth feature, an adaptation of de J.M Coetzee’s Waiting for the Barbarians starring Johnny Depp, Mark Rylance and Robert Pattinson.
Ciro Guerra will be joined by French-British actress Amira Casar, by French producer of Danish origin, Marianne Slot, by Belgian-Congolese film journalist and critic Djia Mambu and by Italian screenwriter and director Jonas Carpignano.
This jury will bestow the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award to the winner whose name will be revealed on May 22nd.
About the Louis Roederer Foundation
The Louis Roederer Foundation was founded in 2011 in order to create a permanent and well-structured sponsorship programme. It builds on the policy that Louis Roederer has implemented since 2003 with the Bibliothèque nationale de France, and opens up to new projects, while continuing to support artistic creativity and make it accessible to the public. The Foundation, which has become Major Patron of Culture and Arts, today continues its commitment through its sponsorship of the Grand Palais and its proactive partnership with the Palais de Tokyo.
But, in all the creative and artistic endeavours that it sponsors in these iconic places of culture and intelligence, whether through the Bibliothèque nationale de France Photographic Research Grant, the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award at La Semaine de la Critique in Cannes, the Louis Roederer Foundation Revelation Prize at the Deauville American Film Festival, and the Discovery Award at the Rencontres d’Arles, the Louis Roederer Foundation plays its favourite role in supporting and nurturing the great artists of tomorrow.
